Papyrus overload

Rob is on the job! He sent in some new stuff.
hey!

I've noticed the overuse of papyrus for probably over 2 years, about a year ago i started vocalizing about it.
so anyways, we had a Halloween party this year and I made the banner with our favorite font! completely forgot about it, as a joke. and as expected, no one really understood the joke. it fit right in!
He goes on:
the wolf run one is from the tropicana resort in atlantic city, i was there this weekend and saw this very high production value papyrus sighting
also, i started my own blog http://latfpapyrus.blogspot.com , because the shots in my cellphone were starting to stack up.

2 minutes after creating the blog, my friend pointed me to your blog and I realized you had already done a lot of work! so as long asyou don't mind me bothering you with submissions, I'll keep sending them your way!

thanks!
- Rob
I don't mind at all and the fact you felt compelled to explore the overuse of Papyrus as well is a testament to how bad/fantastic this epidemic truly is. The news is all over the economy, swineflu, the gays, etc, but do they ever once alert us to the dangers of Papyrus abuse?!

It's a conspiracy dammit.

Rhythm & Jews

seriously...

This was sent in by Rob who concurs, "religion loves papyrus!"

Thanks for sending, Rob. I love the "It's a MITZVAH... at a BAR". Very clever, Papyrus lovers.

The Whole Village ♥'s Papyrus

From Tone:
I was looking for a font that went well with Papyrus for my site when I came across your blog and laughed. I didn't think Papyrus was really that bad, then I started noticing it all over the place. My whole site is using Papyrus including my logo and the books I print, talk about overload. I just thought the font matched with what I was trying to say. But you are right, we use Papyrus as a species too much. I need to ween myself off of this font slowly, is there a 12 step program you know of? Maybe that's a post you can make on your page "Too much Papyrus? Here are the 12 font steps to decrease your addiction". Nice. I have attached a few photos, not for "shameless self promotion" but so you could see what I mean. I hope all is well with you, take care.
Here's a shot of the site, and you can visit it to see for yourself.

Thanks for sending Tone!

Bombadil Publishing ♥'s Papyrus

John was kind (and brave) enough to send (and admit to) this com[pany's card and marketing.

He writes:
This would be an act of shameless self promotion if we had chosen papyrus for this very reason. Of course we didn't, so it isn't.

:-D
It's all over the site too!

Thanks for sending John! And hot diddly doo! I can upload images again!

unfunny comics and indian princesses

got a great email from Bill who writes:
OK, so I happened upon your blog by what wonderful chance I can't even recall, but have been really enjoying reading your archive.

Ahh, yes... A FireFox history search indicates it was after reading http://www.xkcd.com/590/ that I Googled "Papyrus Font" and the rest (of the hours I am being paid to "work" at the office) is history.

Anyway, I love your links to things like the Gallon of Milk on Amazon, and I was doing another random search and came across this little gem:

http://prairie.algonquinlonghouse.org/about.htm

Someone, apparently, stole their kerning. I am guessing that they didn't *pay* someone for that header graphic. It is like a color and font "cage match" where everyone lost.

Regards,

Bill from HB
Thanks so much Bill!

To me, XKCD is maybe the most unfunny, poorly drawn, suckfests on the web but that guy there is certainly topical if nothing else. The indian princesses page is awesome in its use of papyrus with maybe one of the worst logos ever shat.

Thanks again for the kind words and sending this along.

See, now why use decorative fonts for accents when you can use it everywhere?!

Payrus like a Virus

Amanda writes:
Hi there,

Stumbled upon your blog - and love the theme! Anyway, I'm sure this activity will prove to be somewhat addictive, seeing how much this font gets used by local businesses here in Ottawa, Canada.
Thanks for the day's smile...

Amanda
And thank you for sending that Papyrus sighting!

Ryan expressed "I am suprised the new survivor season logo isn't on here!"

Well it is now, buddy!

If that ain't mediocrity at it's finest, then slap my sack around and call me a tommyknocker.

The baddest, mother in design, Ty, sent me this:
Hey Joe! How's it going? I've got a Papyrus sighting for you. Peace, Ty
The character Jan Levensen from the NBC show The Office, has rolled out a new line of scented candles named "Serenity by Jan" sporting a logotype with non-other than Papyrus:
Hope all is well with you Ty. Thanks a lot!

Kristen sent us a smorgasbord of specimens and writes:
Ohhh....do I ever have some papyrus for you!

I have a whole album on facebook. Haha.

Enjoy these tasty treats...

Just in time for Christmas in July!

Speaking of capers... Ron Paul's supporters seem to be staging something along that lines according to HuffPo.

Good news!

Oh, and thanks a ton Kristen.

Papyrus pwns terrorism

Jason sent something along:
Hey!

Found this picture:
on this webpage:

http://www.kauz.com/news/18433304.html

Also attached it to this email. Thought it was a particularly funny context for Papyrus to be applied.

Hope things are well! It's been a while since I last submitted.

- Jason (Atlanta, GA)
Thanks a lot Jason. That's a pretty awesome graphic.

Oh and in a totally unrelated note, I made a really stupid Obama video. Seriously idiots. Obama is not a terrorist or a Muslim. I'm looking at you white FOX news viewers. Anyway, the mouth animates awfully but you get the idea:

GDUSA ♥ 's Papyrus

From Papyrus creator, Chris Costello:
I received the Graphic Design USA American Package Design Awards issue this morning and as I was thumbing through, I found one,
then two,
then (oh yes...)
three winning entries that used our beloved font. (see attached).

I thought you might want to place them on your blog.

I sure would! Chris, I think we know who the real star is here. It's not coffee, oatmeal, or diapers. The Graphic Design USA American Package Design Awards are obviously trying to get in Papyrus's pants... or something.

I don't know. Thanks for sending, Chris.

fo the love of paper

Janet sent us some Papyrus and sends along this note:
for love of god... have some respect for the "craft" that went into creating papyrus:-) This is what happens when you encounter a slashy.... architect/graphic designer:-)

Putting her best face forward, Papyrus welcomes all.

Julia Crawford knows at least two things. One, Papyrus rulz (with a "z"). And two, sharing is caring. She used it on Micheal and Anne Smith's wedding invitations:

Those lucky so-and-sos!

Thanks fer sending, Janet!

All your fridge are belong to us

A new submitter, Ana wrote:
AKA: try not to choke on these!
I'm not sure what's worse: the fact that they used outlined papyrus throughout this mess, or that they forgot (I hope this was a mistake anyway) to screen back the photo. In any case, I'll take the "Who's your Daddy" flash-fried Cornish hen and the Salad of Mirliton please. With a side of overdone Papyrus....

And in case that's not enough, It's Yoga redux! Because yoga just isn't yoga without the tangy zip of Papyrus.

:) Ana

Awesome stuff. Yoga might need a Papyrus intervention. It started small. Yoga was a casual Papyrus user. Soon it was using Papyrus all over the page, blacking out and shamefully waking up next to Comic Sans or Marker Felt. And yoga once had so much promise.

Oh by the way. Ana is quite the shutterbug with a slew of cool work at her site. Check it out!
